The Day I Became a Squash
Because I have the worst memory ever, I have repeatedly forgotten to give a HUGE THANKS on here to Syn for the Kreativ Blogger Award! THANKS GIRL, you are a darling.
I know this aware involves 7 nominees and 7 things loved. I’ve seen this passed around quite a bit recently and I don’t know who to tag because I adore all of my blog buddies so this goes out to ALL of you. As for 7 things, I want to pick and write about 7 things that are near and dear. I would love to put a little more thought into that than just throwing them down and since this post is going to be a bit quick since I have to get back to the good ol school books, I’ll try to remember to come up with a 7 things post sometime in the near future. But I’ll make myself a little note since my memory clearly isn’t reliable enough to remind me to do that ;)
Onto the FOOD
Last Night‘s dinner was quite delicious. It was my first try of an Amy’s Spinach Feta in a Pocket Sandwich and disappoint it did not.
Dipped in salsa and paired with mashed purple cauliflower topped with a mix of salsa and sour cream, this was one tasty meal. I have yet to be even the slightest bit disappointed with an Amy’s product. Too bad they are pretty pricey…
Dinner was followed up by this familiar bowl:
I finished up the last of my vanilla soy protein powder in here. I guess I need to go out seeking some more. I don’t know what to get though, the last one I got was just a grocery store brand that I picked up because it was on sale. Any fair priced protein powder recommendations? I’ll probably just pick up the next one I see on sale but there are any particularly good ones that I should be aware of, I’ll be on the lookout.
Then some White Chocolate Wonderful made an appearance:
And then came…
Sunday
Today was a designated homework day. Meaning I was going to spend all day doing homework. Problem #1? I woke up past 11. Say whaaa? I didn’t think I was even capable of that. I needed it though so as much as I hate my mornings going to waste, I hate being completely tired and devoid of energy even more so this was necessary.
Breakfast was basically Lunch #1 instead. I was going to make savoury oats with cottage cheese but once I got to the cottage cheese container I kind of knew that that was all I really wanted. So I just served up a nice big bowl of the good stuff, along with some carrots with hummus and an apple with the last of my soy nut butter mixed with sf maple syrup and almond milk to dip the apple into. Deeeelicious.
Not long after this, my mom and I headed out for some groceries. I have seen plenty of Agave Nectar circling around the blogosphere and have always been curious about it and its popularity. There was some on sale today so I picked up a bottle of the Wholesome Sweeteners Organic Blue Agave Nectar. I know it’s supposed to be a more natural sweetener and sweeter than sugar but what exactly is it that makes agave nectar the more appealing choice? Do you use agave nectar? What do you use it for? If you do prefer it, why the preference? I want to know if it’s worth the extra few bucks to continue using this in place of other forms of sweetening.
Lunch #2 post grocery store trip was mainly just snacking on last bits of things in containers to clear room for new groceries. This included the end of a cottage cheese container
as well as some hummus and baba ganoush on rye, plus a couple lettuce turkey dijon wraps (I used to make these a lot for lunch way back when. I forgot how awesome lettuce is for wrapping. I was so excited to eat these!)
and one of the best carrots I have ever eaten. I thought I couldn’t tell the difference between baby carrots and whole carrots but this whole carrot was bursting with flavour. I was going to sprinkle it with balsamic vinaigrette but after tasting a bite I didn’t want to ruin its amazingness with any other competing flavours so I ate it plain. Go carrots, go carrots, go.
Dinner was Baked Shrimp with Tomatoes and Feta from The Food You Crave by Ellie Krieger. Quick and easy to make, yet super flavourful.
We made it with greek feta and served it over white pasta. I would have made myself a small pot of whole wheat pasta (I’m trying so hard to convert my family but they are darn stubborn when it comes to their pasta!) but I didn’t think of it until the meal was already ready and I was complaining about my mom not throwing whole wheat pasta in the pot for me and she suggested I should have made a small pot of my own… ha. Oops. Next time? Heh.
I also had a slice of white bread. That is one of the completely nutritionally empty foods that I have such a hard time resisting. If I bought my own groceries I would easily just never bother to buy it but my mom loves a loaf of fresh baked white bread so she buys it semi-regularly and I never manage to stay away from it. Seriously, fresh bread just rules.
Post dinner I had 1/4 of a banana with peanut butter and a Foamy Iced Coffee. Lovin it.
And on a final note.
With my great love for squash, as well as my daily consumption of carrots, I’ve had a couple people ask if I find my skin to be on the orange side. Well, why don’t YOU guys be the judges of that:
My mom’s hand versus my squashified hand.
Do you think I’m turning into a Squash? Yikes.
